Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 23 years in prison on rape, criminal sex act convictions

NEW YORK – Harvey Weinstein, 67, was sentenced in New York City on Wednesday to 23 years in prison for third-degree rape and a criminal sex act as he maintained he simply had consensual “extramarital affairs” with the victims.

Weinstein was convicted on two counts last month: criminal sex act for the 2006 assault of a production assistant and rape in the third degree for the 2013 attack on another woman. On the criminal sex act count, he faced a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 25 years, while the third-degree rape count carried a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

Weinstein, who arrived in court on Wednesday in a wheelchair, addressed the judge even though he had opted out of testifying on his own behalf during his trial.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN WROTE JENNIFER ANISTON ‘SHOULD BE KILLED’ IN EMAIL, UNSEALED COURT DOCS SHOW

“Thousands of men are losing due process. I’m worried about this country,” the disgraced Hollywood mogul said after two of his accusers confronted him in court.

He also said he had fond memories of his accusers. Looking back during the trial at emails they exchanged, he said, he thought they had a good friendship: “I’m not going to say these aren’t great people. I had wonderful times with these people. I’m just genuinely confused. Men are confused about this issue.”

Both victims, Miriam Haleyi and Jessica Mann, read impact statements ahead of the sentencing. The four other women who testified against him, including “Sopranos” actress Annabella Sciorra, sat side-by-side in the courtroom audience but were not permitted to speak at the sentencing under state law.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN: THESE WOMEN BROKE THEIR SILENCE TO TESTIFY AGAINST THE DISGRACED HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER

“I could only hope whatever sentence, [it’s] long enough for him to acknowledge for what he has done to me and others,” Haleyi shared as she broke into tears recalling to Judge James Burke that the 2006 attack scarred her deeply, made her rethink her career in the entertainment business and left her feeling paranoid and afraid of retaliation.

“I believe that if Harvey Weinstein was not convicted by this jury, it would happen again and again and again,” Haleyi said, adding, “Rape is not just one moment of penetration. It is forever.”

On Feb. 24., Weinstein was acquitted of first-degree rape and two counts of predatory sexual assault stemming from actress Sciorra’s allegations of a mid-1990s rape. Weinstein maintains his innocence and contends that any sexual activity was consensual.

New York State Supreme Court Justice James Burke was the person solely responsible for determining how long the former Hollywood titan would spend in prison for his crimes in New York.

The New York case was the first criminal matter against Weinstein to arise from accusations of more than 90 women, including actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman. Many of Weinstein’s accusers say he used his Hollywood prestige to befriend them, dangling movie roles to gain their trust.

HOW HARVEY WEINSTEIN’S CONVICTION AFFECTS WIFE GEORGINA CHAPMAN, CHILDREN

Newly unsealed documents show the 67-year-old former film producer sought help from billionaires Jeff Bezos and Michael Bloomberg as sexual misconduct allegations against him piled up in October 2017, and that he considered issuing a statement at the time claiming that he was suicidal. There is no evidence to suggest either man responded.

In a recent filing, his legal team has asked for a light five-year prison sentence citing his advanced age, charitable giving and medical issues. “He has lost his means to earn a living. Simply put, his fall from grace has been historic, perhaps unmatched in the age of social media”, the defense letter to justice Burke stated.

Weinstein, who turns 68 next week, used a walker throughout the trial following recent back surgeries. After his Feb. 24 conviction, he split time between a hospital and a jail infirmary unit, and had a stent inserted last week to unblock an artery.

“Given his age and specific medical risk factors, any additional term of imprisonment above the mandatory minimum — although the grave reality is that Mr. Weinstein may not even outlive that term — is likely to constitute a de facto life sentence,” Weinstein’s lawyers wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed Monday.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR HARVEY WEINSTEIN FOLLOWING NYC RAPE CONVICTION

After Weinstein was sentenced, he was placed under the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He’ll be transferred from the city’s jail system to the state prison system. The agency will then evaluate his case to determine which facility meets his security, medical, mental health and other needs.

Martin Horn, the city’s former corrections commissioner, said Weinstein’s celebrity status could make him a target for inmates looking to make a name for themselves, while the gravity of his convictions and sentence could raise suicide concerns.

“No jail wants to have the next Jeffrey Epstein,” said Horn, who now teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “They’re going to make sure that nothing happens to him while he’s in their custody. Not because he’s important, but just from a public relations point of view, it would be awfully embarrassing.”

Prosecutors did not ask for a specific number of years in prison in their sentencing memorandum but said that Weinstein deserves severe punishment, “that reflects the seriousness of the defendant’s offenses, his total lack of remorse for the harm he has caused.”
In their letter, prosecutors outlined 16 examples they said showed Weinstein “trapped women into his exclusive control” so he could sexually assault them, starting when he was working as a music producer in Buffalo in 1978.

Weinstein still faces similar charges in California and will soon face a different trial over them.

Weinstein was charged in California with raping a woman at a Los Angeles hotel on Feb. 18, 2013, after pushing his way inside her room, then sexually assaulting a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel suite the next night.

Boosie Hits The $Billion!?

boosie-3-1024x740

Boosie Badazz may have surpassed P Diddy as the next rap billionaire according to news that is circulating heavily on social media.

Two years ago a post on Facebook about Boosie acquiring a gold mine in Africa went viral. It all started from a simple post on the page of a seemingly unpopular person who presented the mine to Boosie.

Now Boosie business associate Ramzu Yunus, who presented the mine to Boosie, has inked $600 billion deals with oil nations Venezuela and Iran and multi-billion dollar mining agreement from Zimbabwe. A news article out of Detroit went viral concerning the $600 billion being dedicated to the reparations for African Americans program and will be given to Blacks via a digital account at Reparations Bank (www.reparationsbank.com). People are registering for free accounts by the thousands as the accounts are being immediately credited with $100,000 value. The money is on hold though as they await 20 million people to register which will be enough people to go through a quick process to attain self-determination or the political status which will give the people lawful authority to accept and transact with those countries which are currently under United States sanctions

Many are speculating that since Boosie is at least tied in with the mines, he will definitely eat at least a billion dollars of such a large cash pot. A Reparations Bank support staff member stated that they are not privy to such details but that people will not receive their $100,000 nor Boosie a billion dollars if the people don’t simply sign up so that the numbers can reach enough to make it all a legal possibility. We are sure that with a free $100,000 being granted, everyone will sign up! After confirming with my lawyer if this promise was a legal possibility, this author signed up immediately. Hey, nothing to loose everything to gain! See you at the top Boosie!

SPIKE LEE NAMED FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL JURY

custom_resized_7328469b-866a-4c71-a093-16b6d82976af_1024x1024
Congratulations are in order!

Famed director Spike Lee was just named the first Black head of the Cannes Film Festival jury, France 24 reports.

The Cannes film festival is the largest festival dedicated to premiering new films in the world. Lee has premiered seven of his films there beginning with “She’s Gotta Have It” in 1986, which won the youth prize at Directors’ Fortnight.

Lee credits much of his global success to the festival.

“To me the Cannes film festival (besides being the most important film festival in the world – no disrespect to anybody) has had a great impact on my film career. You could easily say Cannes changed the trajectory of who I became in world cinema,” he said in a statement to the press.

The “Do the Right Thing” creator is the first person of African American descent to head the festival in its 73 year history.

“I’m honoured to be the first person of the African diaspora to be named president of the Cannes jury and of a main film festival. [I’m] shocked, happy, surprised and proud all at the same time,” Lee said.

Many of the most prominent film festivals have faced criticism in recent years for their lack of diversity, on and off camera. In 2018, actresses and women filmmakers protested at Cannes for lack of equality in the film industry. Lee was vocal in his support of the protest.

Thierry Fremaux, the Cannes festival director said it is that type of voice, that makes Lee so necessary and invaluable.

“Cannes is a natural homeland and a global sounding board for those who awaken minds and question our stances and fixed ideas. Spike Lee’s perspective is more valuable than ever. Lee’s flamboyant personality is sure to shake things up,” he said.

In addition to his appointment as President, Lee is also set to receive a Palme d’Or, the festival’s lifetime achievement award. The 2020 Cannes film festival is scheduled to be held in May on the French Riviera and while it is not open to the general public, they are still accepting film submissions at http://www.festival-cannes.com.

Congratulations Spike Lee!!

Cory Booker Drops Out of 2020 Presidential Race

00bookerout-hfo-superJumbo

By: Nick Corasaniti

Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey dropped out of the Democratic presidential race on Monday, ending a nearly yearlong quest built around a message of peace and unity that failed to resonate with voters eager for a more aggressive posture against President Trump.

The departure of Mr. Booker from the crowded Democratic field, heralded at the outset as the most diverse in history, leaves just one African-American candidate, Deval Patrick, vying for the nomination in a party where black voters are an essential bloc of the Democratic base.

The decision came after Mr. Booker, who never cracked the top tier of Democratic contenders and consistently polled in the low single digits, fell short of qualifying for a second consecutive debate. The setback, the Booker campaign conceded in the past few weeks, would most likely doom the underdog candidacy at a time when the Democratic race for president is being overshadowed by an impeachment trial in Washington and a growing conflict with Iran.

“I got in this race to win, and I’ve always said I wouldn’t continue if there was no longer a path to victory,” Mr. Booker said in a statement to supporters. “Our campaign has reached the point where we need more money to scale up and continue building a campaign that can win — money we don’t have, and money that is harder to raise because I won’t be on the next debate stage and because the urgent business of impeachment will rightly be keeping me in Washington.”

Mr. Booker, who is also up for re-election to the Senate this year, still enjoys favorable ratings in the Garden State, which leans decidedly Democratic and hasn’t elected a Republican senator in more than 40 years. Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey won re-election by nearly 10 percentage points in 2018 after weathering a federal corruption trial.

Mr. Booker opened his campaign last Feb. 1, the first day of Black History Month, with a clarion call for unity in a deeply polarized time. Throughout his campaign, he was unrelenting in his optimism and his calls for love and healing, a message that apparently fell flat in an electorate energized by a fervent dislike of Mr. Trump.

Though the core of his campaign was built on emotional ideals, Mr. Booker focused heavily on policies that deeply affected cities like his home of Newark. He pledged to offer sweeping clemency to thousands of nonviolent drug offenders, and he pushed some of the other Democratic candidates to embrace more aggressive stances on gun control, becoming the first candidate in the field to propose a national gun-licensing program.

And he focused constantly on addressing the racial wealth gap, including an economic proposal known as baby bonds that would create a government-run savings account for every child born in the United States.

He cast himself as the candidate best suited to rebuild the “Obama coalition,” and his campaigning took him beyond the rotation of the four early states to key swing-state cities like Detroit, Philadelphia and Miami. His argument was based in a general election narrative, that in order to defeat Mr. Trump, Democrats needed to revive the massive turnout in cities to offset Mr. Trump’s rural appeal.

But Mr. Booker was never able to attract the support of black voters in both national polling and key early states like South Carolina, who were either supporting former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. or looking at more progressive candidates. As Mr. Booker held up his identity and lived experience as a rationale for his candidacy, he proved unable to bridge a party split more along ideological lines between the moderate and progressive wings.

Nonetheless, Mr. Booker seemed to confound supporters, pundits and political observers who remained mystified why he never had his “moment” during the primary. He started his campaign with a limited base of online donors and a heavy reliance on traditional big-dollar fund-raisers. Without ever experiencing a surge in support, which may have led to a surge in online fund-raising, the candidate was forced to run a shoestring campaign, unable to finance the frequent television advertising that has helped candidates like Tom Steyer become mainstays on the debate stage.

Indeed, Mr. Booker’s campaign raised just $6.6 million in the final three months of 2019, $28 million less than Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the top fund-raiser at the end of the year, raised during the same period.

In a final push to inch up in Iowa polling and make the January debate stage, Mr. Booker’s campaign ran roughly $300,000 in television ads in Iowa in the past two weeks, a modest sum in a race dominated by the millions spent on the airwaves by Mr. Steyer and former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York. The ads pushed Mr. Booker’s advertising budget to its limit.
And he struggled to shine as a unique political figure in a crowded and diverse field. His résumé, which had drawn national attention for its breadth throughout his career, was matched at every point. A Rhodes Scholar and former mayor? That also applied to former Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind. The first black person to be elected senator from his state? That also applied to Senator Kamala Harris of California.

Though his departure from the race is unlikely to have much of an impact on other candidates’ polling, the Booker campaign was a leader in endorsements in Iowa and New Hampshire and had a particularly notable staff of Iowa organizers, setting up a likely scramble by the remaining candidates to secure both endorsements and staffers in the early nominating states.

Mr. Booker also released a video of his announcement on Monday, backed by a gospel-like piano track and drumbeat, that featured a greatest-hits rundown of his message on the campaign trail.

“So now I recommit myself to the work,” Mr. Booker said in the video. “I can’t wait to get back on the campaign trail and campaign as hard as I can for whoever is the eventual nominee and for candidates up and down the ballot.”

Lil Wayne Admitted To Owning Gold Pistol Found On Private Jet: Reported

GettyImages-489015654

Lil Wayne‘s 2019 ended up a strange note. Actually, there were a series of strange events that Weezy had to deal with towards the end of the year. One of the biggest headlines was the FBI search of a private jet he was flying on. Although Wayne casually brushed it off on social media a day later, reports later emerged of the FBI’s discoveries including a gold plated pistol, and what police suspect to be a gang of drugs.

According to documents obtained by the Miami Herald, records show that Lil Wayne admitted to being the owner of a gold-plated pistol found in his luggage. Documents also show that they discovered bullets and what they suspected to be cocaine, along with ecstasy, cannabis, heroin, and other substances. They also discovered nearly $26,000 in cash.

Wayne reportedly admitted to cops that the gold-plated gun belonged to him when FBI agent Justin Carsten asked if there were any weapons on the plane. “There is a gold-plated Glock firearm inside his book bag … which was given to him as a Father’s Day gift,” according to notes in the warrant. Authorities also said that the plane smelled like weed when they got on the plane.

The warrant was granted on grounds of probable cause of trafficking cannabis and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

‘LOVE AND HIP-HOP’ STAR ACCUSED SEXUAL BATTERY, DRUGGING AND RAPE OF A MODEL

A former member of the Love and Hip-Hop: Hollywood cast has been sued by a model for allegedly drugging and raping her. This Sexual Battery charge is the most recent legal woe for producer Mally Mall.

They are saying that the Mall is a wild boy… as if you could not tell that from his love for the exotic.

Qushay Davis, a 26-year-old model is suing him and according to her filing, went to see him in L.A. around this same time last year. Mall was going to talk to her about her career in fitness. When she got to his house, he introduced her to a porn star named Jayla Foxx.

Despite being in mixed company and being there to discuss business, at some point she decided to lay on the bed.

It was then that Mall and Foxx went out to get drinks for everyone. After drinking something that Davis thought was Hennessey, she became dizzy and blacked out. They eventually told her, as per Davis, that they put Molly in her drink. TMZ reports that upon waking up, she was being massaged by a masseuse. This is where it gets weird.

Davis stated that Mall then started to assault her by slapping her in the face. He hit her to make sure she stayed up and though still foggy, she remembers him saying, “You’re my new b*tch,” and “You’re my Jayla number two.” Davis also asserts that he gave her cocaine to take and tried to make her have oral sex on him, before actually penetrating and raping her.

In her documents, she says he put his full body on her and that she “feared for her life and worried that he would crush or choke her to death.”

TMZ further supports that she went to a medical professional to be examined and evidence show that her “injuries were consistent with a rape.”

Davis suing him for sexual battery, false imprisonment, gender violence and infliction of emotional and physical distress.
